Is It Love At First Sight?
Is it love at first sight? Or is it an instant connection between two familiar souls? I ask this question, assuming that I may never really know the answer. However, I like to explore the thoughts behind the question raised.
How can it be “love” when you just met for the first time? Your eyes just met, your skin just touched, your voices just heard, yet your heart felt like it’s in the presence of a familiar heart, thus feeling drawn to it and can’t seem to have enough. It’s almost as if you finally feel “home.”
Let’s back up for a second. Is this for real? Is that even possible? Do such encounters really exist? Well, the answer is, yes, such encounters do exist, has happened and will continue to happen. The reason is simply, we are all connected. Maybe you haven’t personally experienced it. But just because you haven’t, doesn’t mean it isn’t being experienced by others.
Perhaps it’s our inherent nature to rationalize our experiences that influence our feelings. We were not trained on being present in the moment and allowing it to mystify us. Rather, we are used to making sense of everything that happens. There must be a reason. Maybe it’s fate or destiny. That’s why we don’t know whether it’s “love” we are feeling or something else is going on.
We assume it’s love most of the times. Again, because we rationalize and analyze everything, usually to fit our agendas and fulfill our desires. We tend to create stories in our minds and in the end justify our actions and decisions. We need to be able to back up our understanding of what’s going on, therefore we look for signs and clues that prove we are right. It must be love at first sight then, what else could it be?
What if this isn’t “love at first sight?” How about if we forget that such term ever existed? Could it be something much deeper to grasp than our intellectual ability? Is this something that can only be felt, not described in words? Is it possible we learned “love” and applied it without ever truly “knowing” what it is?
We question the meaning of love all the time. We try to understand this emotion more than other ones. Love is who we are. Love is our pure existence. If we closed our eyes right now, and took a deep breath, we would feel so much love. We don’t know where it is coming from? We just know it is there. This is the purest kind of love. Not an attachment. Not an attraction. Not a desire. Not a need. This is how romantic love can be distorted. A pure love that gets turned into something else. And the confusion begins.
I can’t say I know the answer, if love at first sight is possible. I don’t know whether it’s a pure love of two souls finding their way to each other or it’s a romantic kind of love based on an instant connection and attraction. It’s a mystery to me.
